Atari Football restoration finished

Looks great, Robert! Hopefully the new owner of mine will make it look that good. I have a feeling I will regret selling that one one of these days.

It turned out really nice. Nice work!

Where did you end up getting the woodgrain vinyl?

at MBA-Worldwide (there's a link to their site on the LINKS page).

I settled for the Mahogany, although the Walnut would work too. I noticed many of the original games I have seen have different shades of wood-grain.

It's not quite like the original (in two years, I couldn't find an exact match).
On the original (at least the one on my game)...it was a little darker, and you could FEEL the wood-grain pattern.

Although, I am perfectly happy with the Mahogany from MBA-Worldwide.
It wasn't cheap. $32 a yard, and they had a five yard minimum.

Awesome job Robert, when do I get an invite to come over and play??:D

It looked great before, but now it looks factory fresh !!!

looks great nice to see you have finished it, now if i could only get around to finishing mine .......

Can I send you mine? :D

seriously... did you re-do the crowd in the monitor bezel at all? mine is toast :(

very nice work!!!
cheers
/Tim

Looks like you stuck with the original power supply instead of going to a switching ps. How's the heat on the PCB and reliability of the rebuilt power components on the PCB?

2-player XO has history of very temperamental power supplies, especially if the cabs are moved. I know mine did!

Nice work!!

I haven't done anything with the bezel or glass.
Unfortunately, no one does yet.
I REALLY need to replace the artwork on the glass...it's been scrapped off in several places.

Power supply:

I DID stick with the original...did my darndest to get it working again.
Truthfully, it's not on very long.

The most I've ever had it "on" was maybe 20-30 minutes. So, it never really had a chance to heat up over a long period.

I'm sure one day it's going to fry (inevitable...it IS over 30 years old.)

When that happens, I can always hook up a PC in there to run Atari Football on MAME, I guess.

installing a switching power supply sounds most interesting for this game, but is there any info out there out lining how to wire one in? my quick search revealed few details on how to properly do this....

anyone?

Send me a PM with your e-mail and I'll send you some pics. It is pretty easy and removes a number of 'problematic' components from the PCB. The original power management design is pretty poor, so I have not problem using a switching ps in this game versus the original ps.
