I recently bought this Atari Football for a very good price. I am now starting to fix the little problems.

1 - The screen is not very crisp, and the playfield needs to be adjusted to fit the entire monitor field of view.

2 - I am having problems with the optical sensors. The player will move in only certain directions, such left only or forward and backwards only. I have researched many sites to fix the problem, but my optical sensor board does not look like any of the photos that have been posted. I found a couple of sites that have good information. But the boards are different than mine. I need to find the correct replacemnt optical sensors for my board. Please help me out in finding a site where I can get the correct parts,

thanks,
Johnny

Trackball Woes

I couldn't tell by your pics, but the biggest trackball problem I had was worn shafts. Working on replacing those. The cap kit did wonders for the screen but hard to find a happy medium with the cardboard surround. Only other thing is cleaning the optos well, years of dirt. Nice pickup.

I did clean the bearings with WD40. The roller pins are in good condition, not to much of an indent. The sensors seem to be the problem, but I will do another cleaning and verify they are working.

Trackballs

Looking fine DB. All the cleaning I did for the optos was a q-tip or fine cloth with some alcohol in the slots. I then used test mode without the trackballs to ensure all was working well. My wear was much worse and I ordered the replacement 4" shafts. After that just ensure the harness is in one piece and can double check the edge connector if all else fails. Look forward to hearing how it works out for you. Let me know if you need any pics or such. All I am missing for mine now is a coin box and pcb cage. I am not in a big rush to find as it works well as is. Keep up the good work.
