Happy New Year to all!

Hey, I just read something that surprised me in the WG6100 FAQ. On page 18 where it describes the flyback, it states that the Atari Disco raster monitor has the identical flyback (to the WG6100).

Is this true? Can one use one of the repro'd WG6100 flybacks in an Atari Disco chassis?

Has anyone tried this? I have an extra Disco monitor that may possibly have a bad flyback so it would certainly be nice to know if a replacement is really out there after all.

Thanks,

Jon

That's worth a try. Those chassies are worthless. I wonder if it's easy enough to find a datasheet for each flyback.

The 6100 manual describes the HV as PN 99-130516
The disco manual describes the fly as PN 99-170148

Visually, they look quite different also. Definitely not the same part, and I doubt the electrical spec is identical either.

Related thread (though not much more info.) :

And here's another one (depending on whether you interpret 'Amplifone raster monitor' as being the same as Disco, which there can be some confusion about) :

(Relevant post from me with details explaining Amplifone vs Disco: )

Someone should just try it. I would do it if I had the monitor to try.

Worst case you'll blow up a flyback or the chassis. But there's really little to lose. (And a lot to gain for the community, if it works.)

You could also analyze/compare the schematics first, to see if/how close they are. (Or just go cowboy style and try it.)

Or you can do what I did and just throw a G07 on there. Yes, in case anyone's wondering...that tube is 100% compatible with the G07 and way more reliable. I pulled the Disco chassis on @CarrieZ 's I, Robot, threw a rebuild G07 on there and never looked back. Fuck that flakey Disco.

Some of us like the challenge of preserving the insides of the cabinets as much as the outsides.

And that means pushing the frontier of figuring out how to save things that are considered 'unsavable'. (Which many things in this hobby were considered at one point, until someone came along and figured out how they worked, what made them fail or flake out, and how to remedy it.)

There are no 'bad' arcade electronics. Just ones that aren't understood. (Yet.)

Or try what @andrewb suggested and if it blows up then put a g07 in. Why not?
