I have an Atari Crystal Castles with a small graphics glitch. I get the 'windowshade" effect on the moving objects on screen. Game plays fine and the backgrounds are correct but all moving objects have every other line blank like a set of window blinds. Sockets have been tested and replaced where needed. I also looked at the socketed ram on the board (6116's i think?) swapping and replacement made no change on screen. Should I be looking closer at a rom or prom? or maybe the '74ls' chips working the ram?

TIA.

One of the 2149's @ 10A or 10B is bad.

*Fixed*

Thank you for the tip. Replacement of those 2 chips fixed the board right up.

I think I have the same problem, all my moving objects are only partially visible and just green, does that sound the same to you?

I've only had the game 10 days played fine for a week and then this happened

Can anyone tell me where I can buy 2149 chips, I've searched online, and all I can find are Atari 2149 sound chips?

Plus i dowloaded a copy of the manual, and if i am looking in the right place (fig 5-11) the chips at 10A & 10B have a handwritten number possibly 37199

Cheers

That sounds like a different problem. The window-shade problem looks like only every other line in all the characters are missing. If you're missing colors, that's probably a different problem.

You can find 2149 RAMs at www.coinopchips.com.

Thanks Bud

Do you think the 2149 ram will fix my problem, or do you have any other suggestions

I've added an a pic of how it looks, any help appreciated

Cheers

Probably not. I've run into this problem before, but I can't remember what caused it. It could be something in the Motion Object Picture ROM or Motion Object Buffer parts of the circuit.

Somewhere out in the net aether is a webpage with screenshots of CC graphics failures. I can't find it now. :(

Thanks for trying bud

I just read a post you were involved in in 1998 about CC and Motion Object Picture ROM

but i think that might have just confused me :^)

Do you think the problem s definitely somewhere within PCB?

Probably. Check your +5V on the card though. It should be within 10%.
