Hello,
I'm in a pickle with my Asteroids right now and could use some help/advice in getting it repaired. Please let me explain.
Upon power-up, I noticed F3 starts to "glow" for about 15 sec before blowing. Before it blows, the game will come up with exception to a humming through the speakers and a jittery center screen. I was able to quickly turn the game off before F3 blew. The fuse is rated as a 3A even though the manual/schematic states it's supposed to be a 7A.
When unplugging J7 (9-pin Molex), but leaving the other 2 connectors connected (J6 & J8), the fuse glows. I swapped out the AR1 board with a known working one and the fuse continued to glow.
Next, I tried unplugging the main PC board while all 3 connectors on the AR1 board were connected and the fuse didn't glow. I swapped out the PC board with another known working one and plugged everything in and the fuse went back to glowing again.
So the only thing that I can think of at this stage in the game is the problem being in the power brick. I ordered "Big Blue" but haven't received it via mail yet but wanted to throw this out there for the community to mull over and see if there's anything else I may be able to check before Big Blue arrives. I hate to think that once I install that cap, I'll still have the same problem.
I'm working on a customers Asteroids and am trying to limit my trips to his bar. I've already invested quite amount of time going back and forth. If anyone in the community can assist me and figuring out what else I can possibly do in addition to changing out Big Blue, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks in advance!
Stephen
