Atari Assault

I've seen them for $500 and less. They aren't a much-loved game for some reason.

The controls get the crud beat out of them.

I own a couple of Assaults. There isnt a huge demand for the game, but if someone wants one they might have to pay good money for it.

It's all about the joysticks on Assault. If they are blown, it's a $300 - $500 game (imo).

I just sold a set of NOS Assault sticks for $600 so if NOS or refurbished sticks are on the machine that adds another $400 - $600 of value (imo).

yeah, they frequently have the original sticks pulled as they can get worn out. So if it has original sticks thats a plus. If the sticks are good shape that is another plus.

As for a price, I think $400-$700+.

I also have two Assaults. Under-rated tank game., IMHO The Atari cabinet is amazing ... unique and stream-lined. As noted, gotta have the original sticks.
Dependent on condition, definitely $600-1000 for it.

BTW, never heard of Atari Assult. No comment on that game. :001_sbiggrin:

A few years back Assualt was a flavor of the month so I tracked one down and bought it. Mine had original sticks but one was sloppy and it had the hand wear that most have but the repro art never got off the ground. I think I paid $500 or $700 fully working.can't remember

The one I bought had sloppy sticks in it as well. Seemed like a really cool game but the sticks didn't work. After the guy I sold it to loaded it into his truck, he told me he was going to still a computer in it.

I just sighed and walked away...

:(

Sticks rebuildable?

Arcadefixit (Mylstar) still may have some of the important replacement parts.

- plunger
- pivot ball
- actuator ball
- housings

Might need to find the pins elsewhere. ideally, you'll need to take them apart to find out which parts have worn down.
For one of my sticks, I needed new housings too ... $$$. :(

Pretty much what I did. All of the above, both upper and lower housings, new handles, repro Metal control panel. One thing that was worn I couldn't get, the actual stick shaft. There's a hole where the roll pin for the pivot ball goes thru. It sticks past each side of ball and locks into a slot in upper housing. It pivots with the pivot ball, but doesn't allow the stick to rotate. The hole in the shaft was worn larger.

What I'd did, and it worked. Whatever size the roll pin was supposed to be, I sized up 1/32". I drilled the new pivot ball over size with that size drill bit. I also drilled the shaft oversize. I also had to slightly sand the slot in the upper housing to allow for larger pin. Pack it all with nyogel or similar sticky synthetic grease, like Super Lube.

I ended up selling the whole game for barely more than I put into the control panel.

I love this game, totally rocks. First your tank can roll left or right. Then depending on how you turn the entire play field rotates 360 degrees. Then you can shoot missles over hills and things, and then the red pads that shoot you straight up in the air as you rain down bombs.

Also, do the rom swap for Assault Plus, which is twice as hard. Yes totally underrated. I like it so much I restored two of them, Assault and Assault Plus. Great looking cabinet a PLUS! No pun intended. :)

P.S. I rebuilt all four sticks with all new parts from ArcadeFixit. Totally worth it!!!
