Atari Assault sideart seems to be getting a lot of attention lately.
I am gauging interest in how many of you would want to purchase a repro of the sideart?

I am willing to take on the job of recreating it and printing up a run of them if enough people are interested.

At the moment I would be working from what pics I could find but would of course prefer a scan if anyone has one available and in any shape?
If you have one available, I may be interested in buying it or if you can "loan" it out, I will pay for shipping both ways and throw in a free printing for you!!

Thanks,
and thanks to Bob too!

Of course I'm in for a set. Based on the last side art that you did for me, I would have no problem putting all my art work in your hands. That Kong Off art you did for me was so crisp and clean I almost want to frame it. And with you adding the contour cutting to the list of things you do........ I will go with you hands down.

Come on John, he wouldn't be a state fan and enjoy a MAN game like Assault. If he was a state fan he would like this game.. :)

Just kidding..... don't start the flames.

I think I would hold off on this.... The original films are in the possession of a collector. It's just a matter of time.

I'm still a little new to all of this. What do you mean by that? Does this mean that we are at the mercy of this one person to decide not only when but also if are machines look good again, or are you saying that this person is in the middle of doing this project already?
I hope that that didn't come out wrong..... I'm not being an ass, I just dont understand how everything works when it comes to art.

There is a collector who owns most of the original Atari films. In all likelyhood, he has these sideart films. It is a LOT of stuff, and not organized. Finding them is a difficult task. Luckily, there is another dedicated collector who has been given access and is very interested in finding these Assault films (and many other gems) and having screened artwork made. He has to travel several hours to get to the location, so the opportunity to go film hunting does not come up often. But I'm fairly confident they will be found eventually.

I don't know the complete backstory on this collection of Atari films. I think we are very lucky that they still even exist. I think if I owned them I would have cataloged everything long ago... but perhaps I just have too much free time. :D

In the works!
I should be able to start printing these in the next 3 weeks.
Again, if you would like a set, please post a reply here and send me an email. [email protected]

Thanks,
John

Three weeks, that should work out about right. I will have the new Garagecade all set up and being able to set my Assault in the line with a facelift will be sweet.

Assault Sideart Update

Just wanted to update everyone.
Work is proceeding on the Assault sideart.
Bob is being kind enough to send me a paper template so we can be sure to have the correct dimensions for this cabinet.
Thank you Bob!

Once we've received the template to compare to our dimensional outline, me or Eric will begin posting pics as the design proceeds.

Again, if you are wanting to purchase a set, please email me so I can keep a list and I will notify you when these are ready for printing/ordering.

Thanks everyone,
John

Pricing would be $65 per side or $115 a set.
I'm also going to offer the Full Set: Sideart(left/right), CPO, Marquee and Flyer for $150 if anyone is interested.

Sideart will be on Adhesive-Backed Vinyl, Gloss Laminated.
Marquee on Backlit material, Gloss Laminated.
CPO on Adhesive-Backed Vinyl, Emerytex Laminated.
Flyer, front, 8.5 x 11 Photo Paper.

Thanks,
John

hmm Im confused
this was posted I guess in other threads
the cpos are being silk-screened from the ORIGINAL Atari films by Anthony over at QuarterArcade
and the sideart was in the works by others myself included.

Yes I was working with Rich and others to get the sideart done since everyone seems to need it on there machines. I sent my NOS piece to Rich for correct size and color matches. I had no idea that you planned on trying to make sideart. Not sure where to go from here, but like rich said for one it's doesn't make sense to do a cpo if they are being made already. I know its not my place to say you can't, but not sure if that's a good idea.

I guess I'm lost when it comes to the sideart. This post was started and nobody came out and said that they wanted to start the project. The only person that said anything was Matt, and all he said was that someone has the art "someplace" and that somebody "might" do something with it "someday" that isn't a quote, but that all we got out of anyone. And when I wanted to get an original side I was told that it would cost me $200 for one side. Don't know about any of you.....but I will at no time pay $200 for one piece of art with no matching side, and come on $400 for a set....screw that. So someone decided to make something happen for the hobby. My feeling is that who cares who did it first. John posted that he wanted to start doing this and nobody said that they wanted to help out with it. Sorry if this pisses anyone off but I can understand the CPO thing but not the sideart. If someone wanted to do it, I guess they should have said something when John posted.

I can speak for the Assault CPO's. A friend of mine has indeed sent the original films to Anthony at Quarterarcade for silkscreening. This was in conjunction with Takeman's Control Panel Repro project. I haven't touched bases with Anthony in a couple weeks, but I'd imagine the CPO's will be ready before the end of the year. Perhaps by end of Summer. I'd recommend holding off from trying to do the CPO's because there will be some perfect repro's before too long.

The Assault Sideart films do exist and are in storage somewhere. The same friend that accessed the cpo films isn't sure when or if he'll be going back to look for them, but in this hobby, never say never. Heck I get permission, might take a trip one of these days to see if I can locate them, but if someone creates passable sideart I'll probably skip it.

I was basically waiting to talk to a friend to make sure these were not going to be made from the original films first before making a post about doing the repros. We wanted to make sure no toes were stepped on. The best quality would have been from the films, but since there were no intentions to find them anytime soon or at all, then that's when I went ahead and sent my NOS art to thisoldgames to have it reproed since that would be the next best option for exact size and color. Also Rich is known for doing very good work. I guess we might have options of were to get sideart from. The good thing is that its going to get made.

Silk-screened sideart will get done. It will look identical to the original and will not cost $200 per side. So I don't understand why people would want to buy something inferior... unless you're in some super hurry to patch up a game to flip it.
The full art package for Assault has been in the works for many months now, with the help of several people... so having some newcomer step in now and say he's going to offer some inkjet sets seems rather uncool to me.
