Atari ARII ATX switching power supply adapters are here!

Not shipping yet, please let me know if there is interest..

Just had a chance to test out a prototype ARII ATX ps adapter on my centipede/millepede cab. Works great! This adapter will replace out your old ARII ps with a ATX (switching computer power supply).

Only a small amount of these adapters will be available, as the connectors and other parts weren't cheap.. Each adapter will cost $75. These will work with all Atari games that have an ARII-rev1 through rev6. These will not work with Asteroids or Asteroids Deluxe. They also do not work with system 1 games. Maybe in the future they will.

Some of the games it will work in:
Centipede
Millipede
Dig dug
Crystal Castles
All color vector games
Tempest
Kangaroo
missile command
Battlezone

And many other Atari games.

This post is to see how many people would be interested in this adapter. If there is a decent amount of interest they could be ready to go soon. Shipping and ATX ps is not included in the $75 price.
ATX ps will be available if you would like one.

I'll post a picture of it plugged into my cab tonight. Just took a couple quick shots during testing. These were designed and built by Mark Speath. He showed me a mockup/proto years ago that he came up with.. Been bugging him ever since to make these available!

The problem that I see upon first look Pete, is that by putting any kind of switcher in place of an A/R II you will lose your audio amp.

The main question would be... Does this adapter have an audio amp on it?

Dokert,

I've seen and tested the working prototype adapter and it does have an amp built in. Without the adapter you can hack in a switcher in most Atari games, but you'll never get the sound without an amp.. Unless you keep the AR and use a switcher in conjunction.

This is why I was excited about this new product.. As there has never been a replacement for Atari ARIIs.. Until now :)

Yes, this works for PP.. Just need a good ATX ps that puts out a strong 5 volts..
So in other words, not a cheapo low wattage one.. The ps that I'll have available will be more than enough for the job!

Would you need two to support Pole Position?

Sounds like a nice product. I usually rebuild the original AR2, but then again, I have a bunch of sh*t that doesn't currently work. This should definitely fill a need.

Heh, I also rebuild all my ARIIs.. And I rebuild them to help pay for the upkeep on my collection.. But it's such a cool upgrade that I'll take a hit on my rebuild biz. Hopefully I can make a few bucks selling the ATX ps with the adapter as there isn't any money to be made on the actual adapter.. Be lucky to get the investment back on those.

Nice, thanks for checking. I may need one when ajcrm125's Multi-Pole board is finally done... :) For now, my ARII's are working {crosses fingers}

Oh, if you're not super picky about all original stuff, then this sounds like a good alternative to the AR2. This is no different than putting a switcher in a Williams game. Good luck and tell Mark to come out of hiding.

I'd need a photo to make a decision. Be good to have this so that I can quickly change out questionable power supplies in cabinets I am contemplating buying or to use for troubleshooting. I guess I could always drag an ARII-2 with me.
