I've been looking for a supplier of the Atari "air vents" for awhile now, with no luck. I've checked the local hardware stores. I've pimped around my sample vents all over the place... Nobody seems to have any idea where to find them.

Since I have the bulk of the Atari tooling and there's no stamp dies for these things in my collection, I have to assume that one of the tooling items is missing from my stash OR the vent was a generic part made by some company that may or may not still be in business. I think it's the latter, personally.

If you're wondering what I am talking about, I've quoted a 2007 message from Brentradio (here on klov) in which he provides a link to his photo of the item in question.

I need 2 air vents from an Atari cab like this:

And a working 8 ohm speaker from an Atari cab as well.

Thanks,

Can anyone shed any light on this subject? I'm asking because I need them for the reproduction cabinet projects that myself and DPTwiz are working on (SW cockpit cabinet come to mind?)...

Thanks

Dave

Wasn't that vent hole originally covered by wood that was roughly 3/4" to 1" tall?

A good example would be to look at the top back of any Asteroids machine.

I know that this is one of those parts that people mostly take for granted. Now that I'm getting into making new cabinets, I'm finding that sourcing the part is somewhat difficult. I was hoping that maybe someone out there already did the footwork in locating them direct from the manufacturer or a distributor at the very least.

Thanks for the responses!!

While those might work, they only have 3 rows of vents vs. the 4 on the original vent. I think they OP's were looking for authenticity but might settle for a basic vent in the meantime.

All of the soffit vents that I've felt/used have been pretty light gauge metal and bendable. The original part, while not exactly heavy duty, is fairly stiff.

Original vents have these specs:

- 13" x 4"
- Steel construction
- Black paint job
- 4 rows of vents

The soffit vents commercially available at the closest comparable size have these specs:

- 16" x 4"
- Aluminum construction
- White, Brown paint job or bare aluminum
- 3 rows of vents

If I can get a commercially available part right now which is 13" x 4" in size, I might be able to work around all the other issues, including the number of vent rows....

That said, I'd rather it be as authentic as possible. My search for the exact part will continue. If I cannot find it, I will most likely create a stamp die to make brand new parts in-house. :)

Thanks for the help!!
