I discovered tonight that Thrasher skateboard magazine has all their old issues up on their website now. I remembered from childhood that there was an issue about 720 when it came out. After digging around a bit I found it. Check it out.

I had that picture of Cab next to 720 on my wall forever. They also used that image in the magazine I got at school where he did a interview about skating and how he did a bunch of the motion capture for the game. Wish I could remember the name of the mag or get a copy of the interview.

thats awesome, thanks for sharing, I remember seeing this in both Thrasher and Transworld skateboarding magazine when I was younger. the skater posing next to the 720 is pro skater Steve Caballero who use to skate for Powell Peralta.

thanks for sharing, Im gonna try and print up some nice photo paper quality images of each page and attempt to frame em.

He still does skate for Powell.

I think they only ran that ad with Steve Cab in the issue that had the 720 article. I think I remember seeing a longer article in Transworld Skate Mag on it too. I might have that issue. I have TWS from late 86' to the early 90's. Time to dig through my giant box of skate mags! If I don't have it, I think a friend of mine will. I will scan it in as soon as I can get my hands on it. BTW, I sessioned a mini-ramp with Steve Cab about 10 years ago at the warped tour. Super cool guy.

I have footage of the skaters on the 1/2 pipe at Atari, at an AMOA show, and at Sessions board shop. I also have some random footage of them in a parking lot somewhere. I will be digitizing these tapes soon.

That's awesome Scott...like everything else you rescued from Atari.

I know we've exchanged emails about this in recent years, but I'd be thrilled to see anything you have related to 720 development or production. Stuff like this is so interesting:

Thanks, Jeff

I would really like to see all of that footage! My old boss mentioned going to that AMOA show and seeing the skateboard demo. I have been digitizing tons of old professional skate demos and contests that my Dad shot from the 80's and early 90's. 720 is a kind of meeting of two worlds that I enjoy-classic games and skateboarding. I still remember adding my quarter to the row of quarters sitting against the monitor glass to hold my place in line to play the game!

He still does skate for Powell.

I knew he still skated just not sure for what company, I know its called Powell now & not Powell Peralta anymore because Stacy Peralta left the company several years ago.

Thanks for posting! really cool!! Do you think the skaters back in the day were into the games?
Some of them were. I was. I know Tony Hawk has always been electronics and gadgets guy. I think he has actually made a couple bucks off skateboarding video games in recents years. chuckle.

Reminds me of the pic I took a few weeks ago!

Of course, not quite the same...but the same board!

Interesting to note that ad shows the base as being silver, whereas mine was black. I guess they made some silver and some black.

I've seen several that were black. I had to strip the black vinyl off of mine, and it was wedged under the wood on the sides...i.e., done during manufacturing. Don't know if it was an early or late production thing.
