I have the old 1970's Atari rollerball football (4 player version). Recently, one of the track balls (QB side) will no longer move the player left or right, only forward and backwards. I replaced the worn metal rollers and confirm with an oscilloscope that the sensor is reading the spin signal but still no horizontal movement at all.

I reseated the 2 connectors, one near the roller sensor board and the other that connects the 2 roller balls on that side to the main board with no luck. What are some other ideas I can use to further troubleshoot?

Also, does anyone carry replacement boards or parts for this any longer? At a certain point, I fear that I will simply need to replace the mainboard unless I can narrow down the chip that is the issue (unless it is a chip even)...

Thanks for any help or guidance in advance! I love this game and it bothers me that it is not working!

IF you can put it in test mode you can "calibrate the rollers" might be chip. In one of my two players. THe roller worked great in calibrate mode , but in actual play it was unresponsive.....got a new board and it works fine....this was a 2 player game.....I still have not got my 4 players to work.....have rebuilt lotsa trackballs and refurbished lotsa optic boards....

Looks like it is a defective Radial Optical Coupler (030369-01). Probably should just replace the entire Steering Board Assembly (a009060-02). Anyone have some ideas on where to get one that is tested working quickly?

Thanks!!

As a folow-up, I ordered 2 PCB's from TwistyWrists (one extra just in case). They are very tight fits (with the wheel to sensor touching) but after som adjusting I git it to work.

Thanks!
