Near the end of the life of the Atari 2600, Atari designed a low-cost version with built in joysticks. It never went into production (thank god).
One just brought $6900 on eBay today. I bid on it but was not the high bidder...

They didn't quite bring the same price as a Nintendo World Championships 1990 (NWC) gold cart. One brought $21,400 in 2007:
