I need help I'm still blowing both 5amp fuses on the deflection board. The game plays blind just no picture and sound is great. The kill light isn't on and monitor has the orange glow at the bottom which shows its getting power but no power to the HV Diode.

I've done a complete cap kit with transistors on the Deflection Board, HV Board, and Main PCB, and AR Board also replaced the HV Diode, bridge rectifier on the deflection board, and rectifier diode. I also re-flowed all the pins on the deflection board. Lastly I changed all four XY Deflection bds.

The only thing I didn't do was change big blue, it's bridge rectifier, and fuse. But it seems to be working

What could be causing the fuses to blow.

What is my next step?????

Help!!!

Here is my part list.
1 1N5401 Diode (NTE 5801) 3 Amp 100V

1 KBPC-802 Bridge Rectifier 8A 200V

1 GO5-802 19" B&W X-Y w xsistors

2 6800uf50volt radial for XY monitors

1 Atari A/R or A/R II-01 Repair Kit (Caps+Q2/3+R29)

2 MPSU57 - XY Deflection bds TO-202N Pkg

2 MPSU07 - XY Deflection bds TO-202N Pkg

1 Main PCB Cap Kit

This is a great guide for troubleshooting the XY monitors. It's helped me a lot with my 15V2000.

If you're blowing the 5 amps fuses repeatedly, that usually points to the frame-mounted bottle cap transistors. There are 4 I think, and you would have to test those. If you need to replace them, make sure you use the mica insulator and thermal grease when you put them back and make sure there's no continuity betweek the transistor and the monitor frame.

Check out the guide though... GREAT info. This post should be in the monitor section though!

GO5 repair

Unplug both sets of chassis mounted transistors and the high voltage cage, if you still blow the fuses then remove the bridge rectifier on the deflection board, this should eliminate the fuse blowing, now measure across the big capacitor on the deflection board for a short, they very rarely short but that will eliminate that possibility, check the bridge for shorts between terminals, if there are none then reinstall the bridge making sure that you get it in correctly, if it is good and in correctly and the large cap is not shorted you should now have +/- 25-35V (to ground) on the outside pins (1 &7) of the two chassis mount transistor connectors.

Bob Roberts has them

On the parts page...

Mica insulators (TO-3) for above 6 for $1.00

You need to re-grease them too with the thermal grease. And again, ensure there's no continuity. You can test them with your meter set to Diode, try the negative on each leg until you get something. When I've seen them go, they've been shorted.
