Need a little help with the plastic monitor surround in the Astron Belt and Galaxy Ranger games I am restoring.

Between the two games, I have one set of plastic monitor surround (there are actually two pieces that fit together to form one surround - the manual calls them acrylic diffuser, injection molded 19" bezel and shadow box bezel). I know how those two pieces fit together, but I don't know how it screws to the monitor. There are holes, but nothing on the monitor I can see to screw it too. Does it just sit in there? The manual doesn't show how to remove it. :(

I think I might have this (or part of this) in storage. If you can show me a pic of what ya got, I can check my piece. It's left over from a converted Astron Belt I picked up a while back, but no longer have. This was in a box of "Astron Belt parts" that came with it....

That would be great and I'll post the pics tomorrow.

Anyone have any ideas how it mounts to the monitor or if it just sits there?

Here are some pics of it. Notice there are two black, plastic parts that make-up this one piece, since the front part, the larger surround part, screws to the smaller piece, which is what actually sits on the monitor tube itself (if that makes any sense). The smaller plastic part that sits on the tube is labeled, on the back, as Midway MFG Co. #0017-00042-0314 and came out of the Galaxy Ranger. Clearly, I need both pieces, but having either will still help. What other parts are in that box, since I do need other parts?

If you need pics of them apart, let me know. Hmmm... I wonder if I should send these over to Jeff at DLP?

Scott,

I was the one who orginally had this game (and took some of it apart) and from what I *remember* there where two plates on both sides of the monitor for which the inner shroud screwed into to hold in place.

Is the monitor in there now the original?

Both my Astron Belt and Galaxy Ranger cabinets were converted and the monitors were swapped out or missing. :( The Galaxy Ranger had the two parts shown above in the bottom of the cabinet that screw together and sit on the front of the monitor. I haven't seen anything that looks like it should screw from the back of the monitor to the piece on the front of the monitor, if I understood you correctly.

It was taken off all from the front of the cabinet. From what I remember the outer bezel first (to the inner one) and then the inner one which screwed to the front of the monitor.

Those plates were not taken off the monitor on the cabinet I had. If Mod still has the monitor, then you might be in luck. I remember it had a slight Shinobi burn on it.

Should have kept a picture of it for the Hellcade album.....

If I remember correctly, there was no monitor in it when I picked it up, but irregardless, i no longer have the cab.

And what I have looks like your 2nd picture...

If it matches the second picture, including the four screw holes, then that is what I need, so PM me. Thanks.

BTW, it seems to just "sit" on the front of the montor fine and the glass bezel doesn't allow it to move much. If it screwed to the monitor, I sure don't see it. :(
