Asteroid's Vector Monitor Collapse

Hi All.

My asteroid's monitor has either vertical or horizontal collapse. I understand that there are three different monitors put in the machine.

Can someone please identify what one I have and share a pdf of the manual.

I'm assuming I have to fix the horizontal or vertical 'transistors' (I believe) to fix issue. Also, where do I find these parts?

However, I am noob. Any guidance on helping me fix this much appreciated.

I finally found the book. Now I just need too...
 
Looks likea G05. The transistors you need to check are mounted to the monitor's frame. Q608, Q609, Q708, and Q709.

You can do a basic check on a transistor with a multimeter in diode mode

If I had to guess it's probably Q708 or Q709 that's failed since you're getting half the screen.

Definitely check the frame transistors, but cold solder joints can produce identical behavior. Inspect the solder joints on the deflection board carefully and methodically - especially those on the headers. In my limited experience, I have seen more cold solder joints cause issues than actual failed frame transistors.
 
check the frame transistor sockets as well. the solid core wires are prone to breaking off. another super rare finding of mine was one of the frame transistors was just reading open one of the ways. follow the @andrewb how to bring up a 6100 guide for how to test the frame transistors. if you get an open one of the ways to a transistor then it's going to be a connection issue. resoldering all header pins (even in HV cage) is beneficial as noted above.

Wow! Great reply. Thank you for all the resources.
 
Be sure to reflow the solder joints before going out and buying and replacing a bunch of parts.

Because that's the most likely culprit, and you should start there anyway.

When fixing things like this, the answer is often much simpler than you think, and too many people make it more complicated by replacing stuff that doesn't need replacing.
 
Instead of reflowing, replace those round-pin headers with square pin headers.
They have much more contact area with the transistor harness connectors -- doesn't hurt to replace those crimp pins with trifurcons while you're at it.
