I know I'm being really needy in the forum this week, but being new to all of this, I really need help. Sorry guys.

A while back I posted a thread about my asteroids having issues with its brightness for certain vectors. I managed to get that fixed, but recently it started having issues displaying the vectors completely. I have a video to see if you guys might be able to help me diagnose the problem.

Sorry for the crappy quality of the video, took it with a friend's iphone. It gets the point across, though.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you do a cap kit?

Did you replace the transistors?

Did you reflow all solder on the header pins?

Did you post a follow-up to that thread, explaining what the resolution to the problem was?

That's generally regarded as a cool thing to do, so people searching in the future will find not only a problem and some ideas... but what fixed it also.

Could be either the game board or the monitor - what kind of test equipment or other vector games do you have available?

That looks like a DAC issue to me, especially in the vertical aspect but there seems to be some horizontal distortion, so replace them both.

If you don't have replacements handy, you can swap the existing chips with each other and verify that the display issue changes aspect distortion with chip location, then you'll know that you're actually on the right path.

Could be a DAC but wouldn't be my first guess.....can you put the game in test mode and take a photo ?

Mike
