Since I got my Asteroids in 2005, there has always been a slight 'hum' in the speaker that I've simply dealt with. I know many of them have it so it was never a big deal.

But recently, the hum is getting louder, to where it's getting annoying. Does that mean the PS is slowly on its way out?

Thanks Orion-

Nope, I've never done anything to the game other than put new buttons on the CP. She's been totally self-sufficient.

Start there, and while you're in there clean the edge connector on the board with a pink pencil eraser (on both sides).

If you have the cash you may want to consider getting the AR/I rebuild /cap kit from Bob when you order the big blue - that'll help a lot.

Is it possible that this is because the inner bindings in that big-ass transformer at the bottom of the cab are coming loose? Someone told me that once...

I know this much...

My AD had a bad hum, found a bad transistor on the AR/I and fixed it
My Asteroids kinda hums, and the wiring harness is just hanging inside. When I moved it around once, the hum got a lot better (went away), so a bad connection can cause it.

Big blues for that game are now literally 31 years old, so they're due for replacement.

Replacing big blue and capping the AR/I is fairly easy :)

Also I tried turning off the marquee light to see if it made a difference - it didn't.
