I swapped my badly burned G05-802 tube with a near burn free 19V2000 tube. When I was plugging everything back in, the anode cup seemed to be very loose in the anode hole. Is this a cause for concern? Can I spread the leads out in the anode cup for a tighter fit?

Pic of the burned G05 attached.

yes you can bend them but be very careful because they are a type of spring steel and could snap.

If the cup is loose against the tube then go to the auto parts store, get a 99 cent packet of dielectric grease, lube the cup and spread a little on the tube itself. Will stick like a champ.

Ah, that must be the gunk on the cup now. I like this idea.

Rep for you!

I purchased some anode caps on eBay some time back. I've used a couple already. Seems many on the old B&W games harden up. I put one of these more modern ones on, and they mate up and seal great.

The ones I purchased were clearly cut off of surplus flybacks from TV surplus supplies.

I have a bunch of anode cups and attached wire from TV's I've hoarded. What's involved with swapping one out?

An update. The weather is getting warmer so was able to get out to the garage. Got some dielectric grease and gave the anode tabs a little more of a bend to them It's fits nice and snug. I'm confident they are making good contact with the tube. I plugged the game PCB in, adjusted the brightness a bit and it looks great.

Minor issue is the image is shifted to the left. Refresh my memory, but the tabs on the yoke adjust the H and V position?

I will post some pics later today.

yoke handles deflection. without it you would just have a dot in the middle of the screen. it stretches the image horizontally and vertically. those adjustments should be on the deflection board somewhere. I think those were done with pots, not jumper plugs like the old raster monitors too.

I'm not a vector expert however.

Asteroids has X and Y adjustments on the PCB itself, although I can't remember if those are just for size or for centering and size

Asteroids/Deluxe (and BZ) only have XY size adjustments on the game boards. (Trivia: BZ actually has locations for X/Y offset controls on the PCBs, but they weren't populated at the factory, though you can populate them yourself).

However, these controls aren't usually needed, as centering on these games was intended to be done via the yoke. If your pic is offset, your yoke has probably just come loose, and shifted a bit. Just loosen it, re-center, and tighten it back up.
