Asteroids Story/Help

Another new Asteroids owner, cool! I got mine last month, and since then I've been restoring it and getting it ready to play. While I haven't posted much here about it I'm keeping a visual (and written) log of my progress over at Flickr.

Each picture has information on the work I've done on it. I'm still a sort of newb too so it won't be over your head.

Right now I'm pretty close to being done I hope. My board is currently out for repair and hopefully I'll get it next week sometime. Asteroids is a good beginner cabinet because there is a lot of information online about it.

Ya, its a little hard to read some of the metal stickers on the back, there are three i think. But the Serial number and model number are easy to read.

Model 215XX (how many models were there? I thought there was just two versions)
Serial 1239

nice work mhanlen, I hope mine turns out that good but since its my first arcade machine restore ever I wont be mad if it doesn't lol. Did you buy all new parts on the inside or are my wires and everything just that bad lol

Part of the reason I bought the cab was the awesome condition of the interior components. It was all clean and original like that inside. Looks can be deceiving though, because the board was DOA. I've not done a whole helluva lot, compared to my last cabinet. I ordered all the Asteroids specific rebuild kits from Bob Roberts and it cost me about $50.

So (for reference):

$80 game
$15 New T-Molding
$45 High Score Save kit
$3 LED coin lights
$50 in electronics rebuild kits and leg levelers
$60 in board repair
$25 in paint/Polycrylic sealer
$4 to laminate card on back door

$282 which should about do it. Mind you I already had some paint and bondo to help me along. Artwork though will be your biggest investment other than time. If I had the extra money to spare I'd fix my artwork, but since mine is about 85% ok, I'm going to seal it and be happy.

Figure I'd give you a tip on the control panel. As long as all the colored parts are in good shape, you can mask them off and paint the rest in a gloss black after sanding. Then seal it all with a clear glossy spray paint, and it'll make it all match pretty well.

also is it better to have original side art/ marquee ect in ok condistion or new side art ect.

Does it hurt the value of the arcade or help it?
