i have two none working game boards that have similar problems. i have tested them in my working game and the first one you can only see half of the rocks and ship i pulled the socketed chips and cleaned, reinstalled and cleaned the edge connector but still doing the same. any ideas???

the second i can see the ship but the rocks seem to pulsate around their boarders. the rocks seem to stay stuck together even when you shoot them smaller. any ideas here??
thanks

For the second one, I think it's the POKEY chip that needs to be replaced. I just fixed this exact problem on my Asteroids Deluxe this morning.

You could try pulling the POKEY chip from the other board into it and see if that fixes (or changes) the problem.

pokey chip

where is the pokey chip located on the board???
thanks

Actually, now that I think about it some more, I don't think Asteroids has a POKEY chip. Sorry for the bad info...

What I would say you should do if you haven't already is turn the self-test switch on and see what error messages or tones that you receive. That may help solve the problem as well.

The first could be quite a few things. You eliminated the monitor because you said you plugged this board into a working Asteroids. So it must be on the board, and it's probably one of the chips in the vector output section (the area where the adjustable pots are).

It could be one of the IC's but I have even heard of people finding broken legs on the pots. You might need to hook up an oscilloscope to the test points and trace the signal back. Or send the board to someone that can do this.

You will probably need to do this for both boards.
