Asteroids problems

Hey All here is where I am at:

I have 2 different asteroids games with 2 different problems here goes:

1st board, both player 1&2 flash in regular mode along with spot killer on and no display. Displays fine in test mode.

2nd board, Plays blind, Spot killer on monitor board in regular and test mode.

I have swapped the chips from one to the other with no change. I cannot get either board to show signs of progress. I am led to believe that they are board issues and not Monitor/AR issues. I have tested the 1st board in another cabinet and it displays the same behavior only with blooming (HV Diode).

So, where do I go from here? I am fairly new to vector games, but I can use a meter and a logic probe to narrow things down a bit if anyone has some advice on where to start.

Have you cleaned up the edge connectors and made sure that the legs are clean on the roms? That helps sometimes. Board issues on Asteroids can be a pain in the neck though....as I found out recently.
 
First board sounds like a problem with the NMI Circuit. Self test bypass the NMI, while the game needs it. You might try checking that circuit. 74LS161 chip at location C4
