Hey guys,

I just got an asteroids, problem is only about the center 1 1/2" of the screen works. I took a picture of it in test mode to show what it's doing.

It will let you play the game with the same 1 1/2" and when the game endsthe words that come up on the screen are upsidedown and backwards.

Is there something common that goes out on these, that would cause this condition?

I thought it was a monitor issue, but, Someone in the monitor section said possibly a board issue.

Any help would be appreciated

Mike

Have you tried adjusting the Y pot in the X/Y section of the game board to see if you can make the picture bigger?

You first need to figure out if it's a monitor or board issue. Happen to know anyone with an Asteroids or Lunar Lander you can test them in? If not, you can start by rebuilding the monitor to see if it gets better, then check the DAC and other parts on the main board....

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately, I don't know anyone to test the boardset with. I have tried the Y pot, sorry I should have mentioned that. Maxed out it will get about 2 1/2" tall. I guess, I will have to get a cap kit for it and go from there.

Excuse my ignorance, I am fairly a noob what is DAC?

Thanks
Mike

Get the Deluxe rebuild kit, which should include the deflection transistors...

before you cap this animal, reflow the solder for the deflection board headers. I have seen many people recap one of these only to have the same issues after recapping only to find out that the headers had cold solder joints on the deflection board.

Well, cap AND reflow is what I would do. Even reflowing, there's way too many vectors there....

hey, I have an asteroids and I would be willing to help ... you are more than welcome to test your board in my cabinet ... I'm betting it's a board issue, but we can confirm it in a few minutes ...

It looks like that one board issue a while back where the screen was folding over in the middle.

Step #1 is starting point
