I had someone write me with an Asteroids machine available for sale, and when I compared the photo that he sent (attached) with the photo on KLOV, the machines look very different. When I Google (images) Asteroids arcade, however, most of the images (including the one on Wikipedia) match the one that the seller sent to me. Anyone know the history on the apparent different cabinet designs?

The seller indicated some board issues, but that the machine was working fine otherwise. What do these generally go for?

Right machine, wrong control panel overlay.

If it works with a nice, crisp monitor, I'd pay around $250. The CP takes the value down quite a bit IMHO.

Most of the AST/AST Dlx machines that I've come across not working, I was able to get for $50-150.

That being said, monitor problems are pretty easy to fix, and having the board sent out for repairs, if needed, isn't very expensive.

If it is actually working, I'd offer $200-300.

There are a couple of other variables.

The earlier cabs with the Owl Eye coin doors are worth a little bit more. IMHO it's a bonus to get the "slow" version of the game because that is the original game. It seems like a lot of operators tossed these boards and installed the faster version.

You can buy a high score save kit for this game. If it has it installed already, add on the value of the kit ($45).

He asked $150 (since the board has issues), which seems like a fair price if I were particularly interested in Asteroids, but I'm just not. For $50, I'd have picked it up for a project - this one should go to someone looking for a machine.

That's a post 18,900 serial number machine so you'll have a GO5-802 or a 19v2000 monitor, and you can buy the full wrap overlay at Arcadeshop Amusements along with new buttons and you'll end up with a nice looking machine.

The monitors and boards are well documented, and typically easy to repair.

for 150 it looks like a good buy for someone.
