Got an asteroids that wont play just gets a loud humm and doesnt play blind. i got the monitor to do some wacky stuff at least like crazy lines everywhere, ROMS checked out ok. Any idea? Processor?

measure the voltage coming from power supply. Chances are the humming you are hearing are from power supply. I do not know of anything on pcb that would make a humming sound. I could be wrong but I had a Heavy Barrel game that had a humming sound coming from it and it was a inductor/cap problem in supply. I replaced the switcher supply and now supply is fine. The video is out of focus at times but supply is fine.

Replace "big blue" down on the power brick. It's gone bad.

Test mode does nothing. Replaced big blue and still same thing. What about the voltage regulator on the PS?

You got it. Ill give you every voltage i can find. Where should i start?

Great i really appreciate the help. You guys are awesome on here. I always try to hook people up. Anybody want a working Sega Out Runners for $300? needs speaker wiring. the woofers sound like poop.

Ok on the power supply board there is about 4 or 5 fuses and you need to find a good ground and plant your negative meter lead there. Take the red (positive) lead and probe BOTH sides of each fuse. If you have power to one side and not the other, the fuse is bad and you need to replace.

here is a link for you to look over. This link has some very useful info and some info about certain chip failures due to poor manufacture. You can look over your chips to see if the date codes match to a "bad" run where several chips from a certain date code are considered bad.

This also has info for testing and adjusting the +5 volt supply.

Thank you. I wish i wasnt working right now id be testing it as im typing!!! 2 hours left and i hope to have it working tonight!!!

Fixed it after 12 hours labor, numerous capacitors, resistors, wiring inspections, praying, swearing and extreme joy when it played. Cant say what did the trick but I know replacing the Big Blue definitely helped. I also put a new pot on the AR1 board along with new caps. Voltage is around 4.75 is that going to be alright? it wont go any higher but you said it would make it last longer? How would i increase it?

That seems a bit low. You should have at least 4.95 to 5.15. The game may play but usually it will quit after some time. Usually when you are playing as it takes more power when playing sounds and interrogating joy sticks and buttons.

I am glad it is working for you. If you have any other problems just let us know.

The game I am looking for as of late is Operation Wolf. I just got about 7.5 sets of boards for that game from TNT Amusements and need something to test them with.

As for your power issue, you should clean your edge connector with an eraser until you have shiny connectors. I know you may not want to touch it until it mucks up and I understand, been there. When it does, look at your regulator pcb. There is something there that is not putting out the voltage or you have a bad component pulling down your voltage. Look at things near the adjustment pot and it might be the regulator. In either case your voltage is too low.
