I just picked up an asteroids it plays blind. Would the inline diode from the monitor cause this? Or is there something else I should be checking? I know nothing of vector monitors so any help with a starting point would be appreciated.

Yes there is neck glow. And one of the chassis has a red light that comes on for a second when turned on

Reflow the headers on your deflection PCB. Replace caps while you have it out, if you're feeling ambitious.

Yeah, fuses too. Headers, fuses, frame transistors, those are the three things most likely to cause your problem.

If you haven't dropped it into test mode, do that. VSM issues with the PCB can cause problems in attract/play mode, but show an image in test mode.

I just ran into this. In my case the fuse at F100 would blow. I metered out the bridge rectifier DB100 and it turned out to be bad which was causing the fuse to blow. Replaced it and was good to go. Reflowing all the headers is also something you want to do.

Ok, reflowed solder on pins and fuse holders, replaced all fuses still nothing.

No fuses blew, there's no buttons by the coin door for test mode. How do I get there?

Not familiar with this specific cabinet, but there is usually a switch on the upper right corner of the coin door (viewed opened; top side closest to the hinge) which drops it in test mode. Sometimes it's on a panel mounted inside the cabinet instead. Stick your head in with a flashlight & you should see it.

The test switch is not there there are a couple unplugged wires in the area where it should go. I got it working but the picture is distorted the asteroids expand and shrink.
