asteroids pcb, lightning bolt through the middle, no gameplay/sounds, coin up nothing

I just got this asteroids pcb, that is thought to be a clone but is virtually identical to an asteroids pcb.

This pic shows what I get at power up

It doesn't coin up, the player1/2 lights flash
rebuilt a/r board with gold voltages

where should a guy start?

Well one your dip switch settings aren't in English or free play.

Turn up the brightness just a tad.

Then put the machine in Test mode. and Listen for beeps.

OK adjusted the dip settings, turned up the brightness.

When pushing player 1 or 2, it flashes player 1 real quick then jumps back to that lightning bolt screen. It has a very slight beep or hum that goes at a rate of about 4 per second, the lightning bolt flashes to that beat.

There was no test mode button, but I saw a couple of wires near the volume button knob and assumed that was it, so I added a cherry switch and pushed it- the screen went black and I got 3 tones each time I tried this, then nothing after the 3 tones.

beeeeep, beeeeep bwommmmmpppp

the game won't play, it pretends to for a sec, but wont.

Check the manual...sounds like you have a bad chip.

Thanks Kev I was just getting into the manul

who can sell me an M4 ram replacement?

well I laid another ram chip on top of M4 and it didn't change anything.

I may be sending this one off.

This description sounds like a reset issue...hard to tell without seeing what is actually doing. If this is happening hard to trust the beeps telling you something.

Have you poked through this link??? : http://www.ionpool.net/arcade/asteroidtech/asteroidsrepair.html

Good resource. Sorry I am not much help.

I want to say it changed slightly-can't remember now-maybe it's one shortish beep and one long deep beep

So if this changed it's telling you there is another bad RAM. It can only report one bad RAM at a time, so you flip into test mode, replace whatever's toasted, test again, repeat until it quits. Give it another shot and you might have this up and working.

The 4/s flash/hum is the board resetting because of the watchdog.
