Does a regular Asteroids have any sort of color overlay? I found one in the bottom of my cab when I bought it, it has an alternating sunburst ring type pattern. Just wondering, thanks.

Is it an original Asteroids cabinet? Sounds like the overlay for a Star Castle, maybe this game was converted? I have never heard of an overlay for Asteroids though so it does not go with it. Post a couple of pictures.

Re:

Nope it's an original Asteroids, it's in super nice condition, and unrestored. The overlay was just laying at the bottom of the cabinet. I'm thinking it went to another game. It looks really cool and putting it on an Asteroids would look really neat with the different rings of colors. I will post some pics later.

Sounds like a starcastle overlay. How cool would a hybrid asteroids/starcastle game be?

The original Asteroids CPO I believe was painted on. It lookes like this:

If it doesn't look like that, then it's not the original.

EDIT: Found a Willis pic.

The man's talkin' about the color "gel" overlay that goes over a monitor ... like what is used for Star Castle (likely what he has)... Battlezone... Space Invaders... etc.

Not a Control Panel Overlay... :D

I guess I am on the wrong thread. I need to find the drink one. LOL.

asteroid overlay

i found a old thread with a answer sorta to my question . in the bottom of the game was a gel from a original asteroid the coin door has the first circle coin slot but was recall cause a quarter with a string attach could cheat .

At the moment, I own not 1, but 2 of these Asteroids machines with the color overlay still on them. Can't figure out what they were trying to do, pretty crazy. It's like a tie died sunburst, it's like Star Castle but has more circles with extra colors.

Mine is slightly different, but pretty much just like that (and centered of course). Mine isn't clear at the edges, it's colored everywhere.

BTW I found in an old post that apparently WICO made these aftermarket, it was pitched as a way to make your black and white vector game a 'color' vector game. I haven't got mine working yet but I imagine it looks like shit since the colors don't correspond to the gameplay. It makes no sense to drive your ship through a rainbow, lol. I'm going to take it off.
