Got this Asteroids I'm trying to bring back. When I got it the start lights flashed in normal mode, monitor dead. In service mode, it would beep when I hit the buttons.

Rebuild AR01, rebuilt G05-801. Replaced the BR and all the big transistors on the monitor.
Getting 5.1VDC on the board. Edge connector and board look good. Pulled all the socketed IC's and cleaned their legs with a fiberglass pen. I get a solid red LED on the PCB.

Monitor seems good, neck glow, no spot killer. But in service mode I only get the attached screen. Seems incomplete. I hit reset and same screen comes up. Can't get it to change hitting any button. Hitting the buttons still makes a random sound. Speaker sounds like there's static/interference the whole time. Moving the X and Y pots on the board don't do anything to the image.

In normal game mode, I only get a single dot in the center of the screen. No sound. Same when I hit reset a few times.

It seems the monitor is good, perhaps not the PCB? Didn't measure any voltages.
I now have the PCB in the house, gonna hook it up to the oscilloscope tomorrow.

It's the game board. Sounds like you might have multiple issues.

And if I had to guess, replace the 13201 for the Y-axis first. I've seem them cause that exact problem before, in the pic. But it sounds like there could be more going on.

The static sound is probably either a bad TDA2002 amplifier on the AR board, or possibly a bad LM324 on the game board. Unrelated to the picture issue.

I repair Asteroids boards, if you want to send it in. PM me.
