My asteroids monitor just went. The picture over the last 2 months was getting dim even though I had the brightness and contrast turned up, and today no picture at all. Never worked on one before. Do I start with a cap kit? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks in advance

If the game is playing blind I'd check the header pins on the monitor board. This is where the video signal connector from the PCB attaches to the monitor board.

Sometimes the solder can get cold and needs to be reflowed. Even wigging the connector a bit might temporarily restore the picture. I would flow some new solder.

This would be the simpliest answer to you problem. If this isn't the problem then the next guess would be a cap kit for the monitor.

sounds to me your flyback has gone bad.. the dimming picture , that eventually fails is a system of the flyback
