Asteroids, messed up graphics

I had an Asteroids board in for repair. The game played but the graphics were really screwed up. You could make out some objects but there were a lot of squiggly lines all over the place. I noticed the X size adjustment worked fine, the Y size made no real change. Swapped out the 4016 at B12 and now the game works fine.

I wish they were all that easy.
 
Thanks for posting this. I wish more people would post thier fixes and logs so that a search would yield more answers to problems.
 
No problem.

I pulled another Asty board out of storage today. This board was watchdogging (player 1 and 2 flashing fast). I pulled L6 7442 so that I could tell if it was the program code or the Vector generator causing the problem. By chance that chip was bad when i checked it with my tester. I inserted a known good chip in a socket and left pin 1 (DMAGO) out of the socket, the board then played blind, this indicated the problem is in the Vector generator somewhere.
I started checking the X Y position counters (74191's) with my logic comparator. E9 showed a problem on pin 3. I removed the chip but it tested good, looking at the schematics it shows it connected to C10 (74157), that's for today. Hopefully I will get time tomorrow to check it in more detail.
