Asteroids Issue

Put the game in test mode. What happens? What's the display? Do you get beeps?

The manual describes test mode output and its meaning pretty well.

You telling me that you spent all that time recording a video and posting it and you have not even been into test mode. Its like page 6 or 7 in the owners manual. Download it and read it 4 or 5 times

What a waste

I actually did look for the test switch right after I received the game and the test switch is missing...Or at least it is not where the manual shows it is supposed to be...

I plan on looking again when I get home to make sure I didn't miss something, but figured I would post here to get the advice of some others who have had similar issues. I guess I was mistaken, but I thought that was the purpose of this section of the forum...

There's no need for this. Everyone starts somewhere with learning how to diagnose and work on games. Save the acidity for when he asks the same question for the 5th time.

Test switch should be inside the coin door. As you look at the back of the door, it will be on the upper right hand side by the door hinge. It's sometimes obscured by the wiring harness.

Once in test mode, and if the self test detects the bad ram it will give you a beep code indicating which one. You can then replace just that one with a comparable ram chip. Then re-run test mode to see if anymore are failing.

Must be nice to know every single thing about every single game right out the gate!

Thanks for all of the help guys. I really do appreciate it. Found the test switch on the back of the coin door. It was different than the picture in the manual. Tested bad RAM at P4. Looked at the board and apparently someone added machine sockets and did a bad job...! Several of the trace connections (circles) were barely connecting and broken. Unfortunately unsoldering the bad sockets removed them as well. Now I have about 5-6 of those circle traces missing. Gonna take some patience and time to repair them. I'll have to save for another day. In the meantime...I'll be looking for another Asteroids board...

Thanks again!

Toro, you asked for help, I told you where to look. Which is more than most people. Then you found out which one is the problem and now you are going to look for a new board. Try and fix the one you got, if you got problems, pm me and i'll send you my address. Ship it and I'll fix it for free.

I don't represent most klover's, cause I will give you my knowledge for free and not keep silent, like most, but you got to show that you are at least giving it a shot.

CG out

CG - I do appreciate the assist. That said, please don't mistake my lack of knowledge and experience for a lack of effort. I certainly plan on trying to fix the board, but thought it prudent to at least start looking for another, just in case - it's not like they are making any more of these. RAM is not the issue in this case, but the socket and traces that were ruined when it was attempted to be fixed in the past. It may be beyond my capability, but I won't know until I try. I definitely appreciate the offer. I'll let you know how the repair goes. Cheers.
