Hi, I just purchased an Asteroids upright and there are currently high scores from the previous owner listed. I'd like to clear these and start fresh. There is no Self Test Switch in the machine (I guess it had been removed). How can I clear the history?

Also, I read in here about adding a higher score capability from the existing 99,990 to 9,999,990. Where can I purchase this?

Thanks for your help.

Asteroids doesn't save high scores after it's powered off. You must have a high score save chip on the board. If it's a Braze kit look here.

Thanks for the info. That is the kit I was looking for. I'll check to see if it is already installed when i get home tonight. I still want to clear the history, but have no self test switch. Are there wires I can put together to emulate turning the switch on without having the actual switch? Will removing the 6502 CPU Chip and reinstalling it clear the history?

Any suggestions on where to buy the self test switch?

just checked. The good news is the game does have the Braze kit. The better news is I saw two wires hanging loose by where the selftest switch should be. Both had female connectors on them and one had a 4 penny nail wedged into the female connector.

After looking at the drawings, I confirmed that the loose white and black wires were for the switch, and I presumed the nail was there to close the "absent switch". I connected the two via the nail, followed the Braze instructions for clearing history...and it worked, no more high scores from the previous owner (although they will be beat very shortly anyway). :)

I'm glad I didn't buy the Braze kit, since the machine already had it.

You bet, just so you know...only early built Asteroids cabinets with the Owl coin doors had the switch on those two wires you saw under the volume POT. On later models they mounted the test switch in the upper right corner of the coin door (looking at the door opened).

Oh...I'll check the door. Mines a later model. SN 32653. I'm guessing they started with 00001. Thanks again.
