F600 was blown. Put in a fresh 2amp slow blow and upon power up there was fire and smoke at D601, D604, and D605. I have never seen anything like this.

Thoughts? Why the hell didn't the fuse just blow again? Feedback is appreciated. Thanks!

Oh crap! Check out these 2 fuses. Both are labeled 2amp slow blow. I bought the one on the right from Radio Shack many years ago. I recently bought the package on the left from a local electronics store. What gives? Why do they look different? I put one of the Radio Shack fuses into F600.

Oh no! I guess it's suppose to be a fast blow. Crap!

Geez. I wonder what I need to do to fix this. I smoked a number of components. Damn!

You either have a shorted transistor (one of the big heatsinked ones on the deflection board) , or shorted diode.

You need a full rebuild, as there are likely a bunch of bad components. When things short on these boards, it's not uncommon for them to take out a bunch of other components as well.

I have rebuilt and tested deflection boards for $115 shipped, with 6 month warranty. Or $75 shipped if you want to trade in your old board.

PM if interested.

Kentmurphy,

Prayers for your loss...

What was the issue that caused you to replace the fuse in the first place? Were you diagnosing or testing your Asteroids?

Either way, you are going have to assess the damage that happened and check it against the board diagram. Hopefully you will
just need to replace the components in a section.

If what you said is true, then it looks like (and probably smells like) your deflection board smoked the diodes on the Y input.
Look at Page 10 of the following link:http://arcarc.xmission.com/PDF_Moni...Electrohome G05-802 G05-805 Monochrome XY.pdf) on the lower left of the Schematic.

You will see the input for Y and the blown diodes that come after. Guess what else you might be replacing: TRANSISTORS! http://www.therealbobroberts.net/mon39.jpg

Luckily, for you, the parts are out there. But you should verify that the power from the power supply is good and that everything
else is working in your Asteroids.

If you are lucky, your game plays 'blind' (sound and logic working with the monitor/busted or simply unplugged) and hopefully it's just
your monitor that needs your attention.

Time to break out that Multi-meter...

Game was playing blind and the spot killer was on. I have repaired a number of g05-802s in the past and I just unfortunately made a rookie mistake. I was rushing and put in the wrong fuse. Now I just need to see how badly I damaged the deflection board. Hopefully it's isolated to only a few components. I am really pissed at myself for making this stupid mistake. A simple problem has now become more complex.

I've seen similar things happen when F600/700 are overrated and Q608/Q609 are swapped.
