I've heard some mention of a fast/slow setting for Asteroids, but I sure can't find anything about in the manual. Screwing around with the various PCBs I have, one definitely plays faster than another, and they're both the same revision, -05.

Is this one of those things where you cut a trace to change it or what?

Check here to see if it's the same issue as yours:

I'll check through tomorrow night, I've had enough fixing games for one evening. It doesn't feel broken, though. Just a bit faster.

There's a pin you can cut on 1 chip, that makes the game much faster. If you look real close at your fast board, I'll bet it's been cut, apparently the ops knew about it back in the day, Atari may have actually clued them in on it. It's a chip near the center of the pcb, towards the edge.

No opinion on whether it sucks or not, but it sure is a hell of a lot harder. I struggled to break 10k when I can usually rack up a good 30k score at normal speed.

I had a modded board in mine for a few months.. Got pretty good at the fast mode.. I just didnt feel right.. I have some pics some where of the mod..
