I just got an asteroids, and am having a few issues with the picture.

The asteroids and screen are too big after warmup. Screen looks zoomed in. KLOV members tell me that it is blooming, and I need to replace the HV diode(D904). I looked at the monitor, and it appears that the original Wells Gardner was replaced with a Amperex M50-102W. Does that still have a D904 diode in the HV cage? Is the replacement monitor using the old Wells Gardner HV cage? Is the Amperex M50-102W compatable with asteriods?

I also noticed that the first wave have even brightness across the screen. Wave two and after has a dim area in the center of the screen. When asteroids pass across the center of the screen, they dim and then rebrighten as they move back toward the screen edges. The ship in the center is dim, and when you move it 3 inches from center, it goes back to normal brightness. Fly back to center of screen, and ship goes dim again. Dimming problem is not present on intial startup and first wave of asteroids.

Also there is a permanent single dot in the center of the screen, and single center dot in every flying asteroid.

Some faint retrace lines are present, however, I think they show because the monitor brightness is set too high.

Any suggestions?

As far as your retrace lines go, yes, your brightness is set too high. The Light dot in the middle of the screen is normal for asteroids. Mine and others also have that dot also as months ago I asked the same question. Now as far as the middle of the screen dimming, some of it might be screen burn-in, or you might check your voltages on your a/r board and your PCB and make sure you are getting your 5v to themain pcb, if it's way to low it will get dim on the screen. Also when's the last time the monitor and boards and powersupply have been recapped?
