I have an Asteroids Deluxe that works fine, but then after like 5 minutes it slowly starts to fade from bright and nice to completely dark. Game continues to play but the monitor goes blind.

Capkit?

When it fades to dark.....does the neck glow also fade?....it yes, are the coin door lights also fading?

Don't know about the neck glow but the led's on the P1 and P2 buttons are bright as ever, so is the marquee.

The monitors heater (IE: neck glow) is fed directly from the 6 volt tap off the transformer assembly. This 6 volt feed also supplies the COIN DOOR lights. I've seen many times where a connnector is weak and can't handly the feed. The monitor will seemingly be fine, but fade to dark. Since the coin door lights are on the same feed, they also fade with the monitor.

The marquee is fed from a straight 120 volt line, and the LED start buttons are fed by the motherboard. These two things are not related to the monitor's feed.

Hmm. I'll have to check this as well. I have two Asteroids Deluxes at the shop that won't give a picture. Spot killer comes on then goes off at power up like normal. Neck glow starts bright but then fades to the point I have to shield it with my hand to see there is still glow. I hear no chatter at all.

I have already recapped both and replaced the HV diode, although the original diode was an H1802 and the replacements I got from Arcadeshop were H1809's. Not sure if that would make a difference...

Check the blue leads at the connector at the transformer. Mine were loose as well and caused the monitor to dim after 5 minutes. Thought it was more problems after diagnosing everything else...

It might be the header pins for the video signal to the monitor. You have cracked or cold solder connections. Reflow the solder. I had this happen on both my machines - Asteroids and Asteroids Deluxe.

I have been tracking down the fade then blank screen for a week. Figured it out. Heater voltage drops to 2.5v Why? because the fuse tests good on continuity, but when I pulled it out, one of the sides started to spin and the inside was corroded. High resistance and low voltage was getting through. So I put a new fuse in F6 which is the heater voltage (6.3v) on the brick and bingo! Monitor works great and looks bright!!!

identical issue on mine today- absolutely love when you can try the first search result successfully.

I popped out F6 and tested continuity- no beep. double check the DMM/tap a piece of metal, dinnng. Replace fuse, immediate result

Thanks for posting :)
