My mom called me and her best friends husband got an asteroids deluxe in a storage unit and he only wants 200. problem I see is it can't be plugged in at the unit. Since we're close I can get it cheaper but what am I looking for when I get there to make an offer?

If it were me and if cab is nice and since you cant plug it in make sure its complete and offer 150.

If the cabinet is in very nice shape I'd have no problem with $200 for an AD. Definitely less than parts value.

I'd check inside and make sure all the boards are there and that none of them are cracked or have any scorch marks. You can also see if the wirings been hacked. A quick look around inside with a flashlight will tell you a lot.

As with all Atari cabs that have been in storage, it's about water damage. Check the cab for swelling by comparing the width of the side pieces with the t-molding. Also look to see that the sides are smooth and not textured. For AD you also want to look at the back lower corners carefully. If you can't turn it on, take a look at the fuses on the monitor chassis. You can see them through the coin door with a flashlight. If they're burnt out, the monitor is likely dead. Not a big deal, but good to know.

For some strange reason, I have noticed a pattern of water damaged AD cabinets. No idea why AD's get so much water damage, maybe because of storage issues but water damage and making sure the monitor works somehow are my 2 big concerns with AD cabinets.
Good luck!

Check that the black light fixture is in there, its behind the marquee light also check that the translucent peice that goes in front of the black light art is there. Also see if the blue gel is on the monitor or cardboard bezel, mine did not andi didnt even know about it.

Maybe you can bring a helluva an extension cord and get lucky with a plug. If it's in storage, there's a plug somewhere around it.

ah change of plans, gonna get it dropped off at my parents house, its mine now, when it gets there at least i can plug it in

Just to add to this - one can always pick up on of those adaptors that adds a plug to a light socket (unscrew the bulb and screw this in and then you can screw the bulb into this as well and plug your cord in - no ground pin though).

Anyways, just an added thought...

Just picked up. In truck on route home. Amazing shape. 17k on coin counter. No water damage at all. No dust inside cabinet. Pics soon

I don't think this game was anywhere near as popular as Asteroids and these were not in arcades that long before they were moved out. You see a lot of these in pretty decent shape.

The one I have was in an arcade operated on a Naval base, presumably San Diego. It has the Navy sticker on the front.

Well mine plays blind. The spot killer light is on. Ordered a cap kit from bob. Needs new buttons to since there filthy. I think I got a high score playing it blind. Also my black light is on but doesn't seem ti brighten up the backdrop to much? Maybe cause monitor isn't on as well?
