Asteroids Deluxe Value - Updated with pics

I happened to stop in a diner near where I work today and saw and Asteroids Deluxe for sale. It has been sitting there for the last five years since I started working in this area. It was listed originally for $500 but now it is down to $100 obo. All it says is that it needs a "capasitor" so I left my number. I remember before there was a problem with a short in the power switch. The outside needs degreased as it has been in a diner type place. The sideart is some sort of black vinyl with a horizonal gold metallic stripe halfway up the cabinet and gold T molding. I was going to offer $50 for it since it has been sitting for so long and the sideart isn't original. Does that seem pretty fair? I have an Asteroids but I know some people like the Deluxe version better. Any opinions? My camera is broke or I would have added a picture.

I would have thrown the 100.00 at them as well and taken it. It's just a cool game.

I paid 250.00 for mine last year with a nonworking monitor...it's working now of course...

around here AD is only worth $200 . Barely sold mine for that much , sat on CL forever . I've seen other AD's sit on craigslist too .

I think $100 is fair for the one you descibed .

I love Asteroids Deluxe and it is a great game. That being said, in good shape, 100% working with near perfect artwork they still only seem to SELL in the $250 range (that's what I paid for mine 4 years ago and that's what I still see them listed for on CL in MN at least 1-2 times a year). Great if you're looking for one, bad if you're trying to get top dollar for one.

There is one on C/L here and the seller had listed for $1500 for a while!
Seems he is starting to come to his senses....

Atari's 1981 Asteroids Deluxe arcade video game is a genuine collectible classic.
Was working, It needs Monitor work or just a lose connection. Don't ask if I will take a lower price. You P/U Cabinet in V.Good condition, working it is worth up to 1500. +

Hmm...not working......

There was another one that was listed in San Diego for a crazy price of 2k and also not working....

It eventually fell all the way down to $150 and it sold.....

Got mine for $100 not working, felt like a steal, the game is great and I feel fortunate to have one regardless of the current values.

i wish i could find a working AD in decent shape for $250, but they sell for more up here. sucks, 'cuz it's on my short list of "should buy very soon."

but i'd be hesitant to pay $100 for a machine in the condition you described unless i knew the side-art underneath the black was good; if not i'd rather hold out for one that is. if you're looking at it in terms of parts value, it's well worth $100 for the bits and pieces

Yeah, $50 for a non-working one with the original side art all F-ed up is fair.

I love Asteroids DLX, probably my favorite game. I would agree with the others on pricing, they tend to sell for less than what you would think. $200 - $300 is a common price for a working one in nice original condition.

Thanks for the info. The guy selling the game wasn't there or I would have taken it especially since I have my truck today. I left my name and number so we'll see what happens. I will post a pic later from my phone when I go by there again on my way home from work. The black and gold sideart is just very unusual but it is very well done.

from the photos the cab looks in great shape just a real bad paint job and some crazy t-molding i would pick it up for $100 and hope that the side art is covered by some latex paint. but even if its gone at least the cab looks in good shape.

Those photos seem to remind me of an old dedicated neo geo 2-slot for some reason. Anyhow, if anyone sees a nice Asteroids Deluxe for sale in my area, please be sure to let me know. ESPECIALLY if it is really nice and going for cheap...
