I have an Asteroids Deluxe game that will play anywhere from 10 second to 1 minute. At that time it appears to reset back to the demo screen. If I turn the game off, and then back on, and then flip the test switch, everything looks fine. If I play the game until it resets, and then flip the reset switch, I get an R2 on the left portion of the test screen.

Does this mean that ROM2 is bad? If it does then do I simply replace that ROM or replace all the ROMS? If R2 doesn't mean ROM2 then what does it mean?

I'm pretty sure Asteroids Deluxe displays the location on the board of the rom that is bad. I would remove the rom at location R2 and make sure the legs are clean and re-seat it. If that doesn't help, either the rom is bad or the circuit controlling that rom is bad.

Thanks alot for posting that pic. When I get power back on at my house I will give this a try and see what happens.

I removed R2 and checked the legs. They all looked fine. I went ahead and cleaned them using a pink eraser. I then reseated the chip and fired the game up. Same symptoms. I will go ahead and replace it.

Should I replace all of the Roms or just the one that appears to be bad?

Start by replacing that one rom and go from there. You do not need to replace the other roms. If it still reports bad, check the socket first, then the circuit controlling that rom.
