Hello all. My Asteroids Deluxe is sick (again). I recently put the back door back on the cab ( had it off since I got it ), left it on one day for about 6 or 7 hours. Noticed it was on that night, and all it was doing was both player 1 & 2 flashing, nothing on screen. So I open it up and man was it hot in there. The heat seemed to come from the heatsink on the AR board. When I got this machine it has a fan mounted in the rear bottom of the cab. The fan was shot so I removed it and never replaced it seeing as it never really got that hot before (back was off, duh!). Anyways, test mode gives beeps (beep...beep...beep...etc.), spot killer on, neck glow good.
Doing some research I found out it could be the 74LS161 chip. I reflowed the pins and no good. So I am going to order this chip. Does that sound like it might be the problem? Should I order more parts while I'm at it?
Thanks.

I checked the manual and there's nothing related to my beeps. It's constant beeping , no long or short combinations.

Put a logic probe on the reset pin of the CPU and see if its toggling. I'm sure it will be. If that's the case then the program isn't running or not reaching completion.

You will then need to probe all the data lines and address lines looking for dead lines. or do signature analysis or hook up a fluke 9010 to check your find to be sure they are reading correctly.

So you're saying I should send it out for repair then
Bummer.
