Great Machine. Fully working. Owl eye coin door. Back door w/ Instructions. Cone buttons are one black and one silver. Coin box inside. Has the tilted Bezel feature for better viewing without glare. Fresh cap kit on monitor. Side art is great except for some light peeling. $500 (was $600)

Can I ask you for help? Also I have this machine but I see the image in small on the lower right corner of the screen. Do you know how I can adjust the image?
Thank you

That is the board I repaired for you. (I can tell from the high scores, which are the highest I've ever seen, and crazy high.)

To any prospective buyers, the board is warrantied through 7/2018.

Also, I've never seen an AD with an owl eye door. I'm guessing that isn't original? (Or is it?) Interesting.

Killer deal here.

Wonder if those scores are on the Twin Galaxies settings (hard)? Isn't there a board version that Twin Galaxies wont even except scores on (not as hard as the other two revisions) But if so....damned! I really suck at AD! :D And.....

Am I the only one that finds it deeply ironic about this hobby that the best and most timeless game-play games sell for peanuts and the games with crappiest game-play sell for multiple thousands? What gives? :D Hell, I consider AD a top three of the golden age classics!

I'm not up on TG specifics and what they do or don't accept scores for, but I don't believe this board had/has the hard ROMs. There are the v2 easy ROMs (which also have a hard setting option, via the dip switches), and then there are the original v1 hard ROMs. I'm pretty sure this board has the 'easier' v2 set, but those scores are insane either way.

I keep telling myself they must have used some point-pressing trick or other technique to get those scores, as I find it very difficult to believe you could get a score that high through 'normal' gameplay. The difficulty ramps up pretty fast once you hit around 50-60k, and keeps going as far as I'm aware.

I also know the hard ROMs are not identical to the easy ROMs set to hard, as the behavior of the alien ship is different between the two. There's a good thread about it here:

And yes, I agree about game prices. AD is my 'desert island' game. I never get sick of the gameplay. It perfectly exemplifies the 'easy to understand, difficult to master' ethos of Nolan Bushnell and Atari at that time, and is a perfect sequel.

It kills me that this is still here. Refurbed and warrantied board, owl eye coin door, anti-glare kit, and it's in great shape. This thing is pimped out. $500 is a steal.

^That score is from one of our local players Sam Mcnear.

AD is the only game I've bought twice. Prob be a third time.

Oh sweet. That's awesome. I'm glad to know this person can be identified, and thanks for providing that.

Now get his ass here to spill some gameplay secrets. ;) I'd love to see a vid of gameplay in the 300k+ range.

Here's a video of John McAllister rolling the score over. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWbGxa5kcl0

Unfortunately, the best gameplay secret is to be incredibly talented.

I just watched a good chunk of that. Thanks for posting, as I wasn't aware he had a vid.

Lots to learn there though, technique-wise. Definitely made me aware of some stuff, and confirmed some other things I already do. (I'd love to do a more detailed write up on that, but I'm on mobile at the moment.)

Also, there's an interesting bug with the bonuses at 990K. It looks like it started awarding extra men with every shot, as the bonuses rolled before the score did. (Which makes sense, from a programming perspective, but is still interesting.) He was almost out of men at 990k, then it jumped to max men, which caught my eye, so I had to go back and watch.

Yes, I remember reading something about that bug. The game checks to see if (current score - next ship award score > ship award interval). Adding 10k to a value from 990000-999999 wraps to 0, so the check is always true, so you get one ship for every point scored until it rolls over.

You are not alone - AD is one of my favorites and can be had for cheap... Beautiful are and mirror effects... I think it gets plenty of love, but I also think they made a lot of them at a time when vectors were in their way out... high supply = low price...so while it is ironic that paperboy goes for 2k+ I still think it's awesome you can get an AD for 500. If I could get all my favorite games for 500 I would be super bummed I didn't have space for all of them...
