I've been inspired for a while by this and other multi-vector threads...

I just did some experimenting in PowerPoint with multi-vector artwork options for an Asteroids Deluxe control panel overlay.

This includes two sets of controls a la Space Duel, and also room for a Tempest spinner.

The games I'm mainly thinking of include Asteroids, Asteroids Deluxe, Lunar Lander (as represented by the existing multi-game kit), Space Duel, Gravitar, and Tempest.

Original overlay (from Arcade Artwork)

Multi option #1 (I thought it'd be neat to have Space Duel represented by the green & red button rings instead of all green and all red)

Multi option #2 (with some Gravitar graphics)

My first attempt at doing something like this, so it's a little "off" here and there (placement, spacing).

Thanks for looking!

It looks very nice for a conceptual art package.

What would you use for the LL Thruster?

Well, I, uh...(the Charlie Brown answer!!)

I was thinking that the thruster wouldn't be part of the panel. 😬 I also don't think there's room for Black Widow joysticks.

But LL would be part of the multi-game choices, for sure...it'd just be the buttons instead of the thruster.

Ducking for cover now, I guess! But maybe someone else could take a crack at the layout and see if more controls would fit...?

Thanks.

No, that's actually okay.

You might consider a "mini" thrust controller. I was thinking of doing one for my AD Cocktail game, but ended up trading it for a Centipede with another member.

It basically has the same form-factor as the original, just about the size of a soup can cut in half (Campbells, not Hungry Man)

This is just anti-social me, but I have to wonder if the twin sets of controls for Space Duel are warranted. Yes, it's one of the best team 2-player games ever, but if there's not a second player 95% of the time, is that 5% (or whatever) worth giving up that much real estate?

Answer of course depends on what you think that percentage is really likely to be…

Your point is well taken. I guess we could ask the same question about a dedicated Space Duel. My thought is that if SD is in a mirrored cab it would be that much more appealing as a two player game.

Obligatory link to @DogP's analog thruster button mod:

I backed out of my multi Space Duel project in favor of keeping it original. I find multigames to be a good extension of my games for me, but overly confusing for guests. So the busy control panel ended up being a dealbreaker.

Now I want an Asteroids Deluxe. I'd consider a multigame for it that keeps the original control panel and boots to AD. I have something similar in my Centipede cabaret (millipede board with HSS kit) and my Ms. Pacman mini (bitkit 2).

I have the High Score Saves multi-game kit (Asteroids, ADX, Lunar Lander) in my otherwise-stock ADX. It's great. Only complaint is that there isn't an analog control (Lunar Lander) option for ADX boards.
