I just picked up an Asteroids Deluxe upright that is in great condition. Cosmetically.
It turns on and plays blind. The monitor is getting neck glow, it has no spot killer light on, but it has no picture. What could be the problem?

If you have tried to turn up the brigtness and it didn't help, my guess is you have a HV cage problem. The LED will not turn on if you have video from the logic, have a working Deflection bd and your transistors are working. All of that leaves the High Voltage cage.

If you can't figure it out you can bring the game here, bring just the components here, or I can stop by on my next trip up there ( in a week or two). The price would depend on what all you want done. I have to agree, no spot killer usually means HV cage but it doesn't make sense not to rebuild the whole monitor.

EDIT: isn't that the one that was on CL that just needed a monitor fuse ? LOL. Same seller had another game that also just needed a monitor fuse. What a coincidence.

Test F100 & F101

if good

Test R100 & R101

if good

Test DB100

UPDATE!!
There was 2 blown fuses on the monitor chassis. I couldn't find a manual on this monitor so I replaced the fuses with what was in there. And they blew again right away. I am hoping someone has the fuse schematics for this monitor and hopefully the right fuses fix this problem.

Either you have the wrong value of fuse or DB100 is most likely bad. DB100 is a bridge rectifier and can be tested using the diode function of your meter.

F100 & F101 are both 5ASB (Slo-Blo) fuses and are still available at most radioshacks.

Thank you very much for taking the time to help me.
There was a 5a fast blow in the f100 and a 4amp slo blo in f101. I'm gonna head to radio shack right now to get some 5amp slow blow fuses and start there. If they still blow how do I fix the db100?

I was always taught to not replace the fuses until you find the fault

It forces voltage into an already bad situation

I agree with Dok, who is saying he thinks the Bridge is bad maybe, test that, and HOPEFULLY it's bad, then you can safely fit the correct fuses after replacing it.

If you don't find the problem, keep looking and asking till you do :)

With the monitor unpowered (off), set your meter to diode test.
DB100 will have 4 legs, +, -, AC, AC
Place black lead to + and red lead to each AC leg, should have a reading of .400-.600 for each AC leg
Place red lead to - and black lead to each AC leg, should have a reading of .400-.600 for each AC leg
There will be 4 readings as this is a full wave bridge rectifier.

Ok so I tested the db100 but I don't think I did it right because the readings I was getting didn't make any sense. So I had 4 5amp slo blows so I figured what the heck. I put the new fuses in and AWWWW!!! The screen came on and the game works great.
Thanks again Dokert and everybody else that tried to help I really appreciate you guys taking the time.
