Asteroids Deluxe Monitor Fold over? Only half monitor showing. G05

So yea, what the title says; only half the monitor is showing.

It appears that the upper half of the monitor is all being compressed into a line in the middle of the monitor.

Compressed into this line. The bottom half of the screen is fine.

I was playing the game earlier this morning and it was working great. I've had it about 6 months with no problems until today. This afternoon when I turned it on this is how it came up.

Is this a cap kit issue? Thanks for your help! :)

Get a cap kit with the metal transistors that mount to the monitor frame and then go from there. Did you check the fuses ? You probably have one blown. Also need to reflow solder over all the connector pins on the back of the deflection board. To answer your question though, no , its not a bad cap, but replace them anyway. It could also be one of the little power transistors mounted to the heat sinks. You could remove them and meter them to see if they are ok.

Edit: Dont just replace a fuse and expect it to be ok. Wait until you rebuild the monitor to fire it up again.

So do you think the issue is on the deflection board? If so I'm not going to mess with the HV board, at least for now. I'm trying to figure out how to pull out just that board right now.

Any idea where to get a cap kit that comes with the transistors? I cant find them on Bob Roberts. I see cap kits on ebay but thats about it.

I just pulled the diverter board and it has a blown fuse:

Its the one to the right up at the top of the board. it says: F101 5.0 Amp, 250V Slow Blow.

I several of the legs of the bridge rectifier (DB100) center top of the board are shorted. I'm currently trying to find a part number.

Bob Roberts has the cap kit. Scroll to the bottom of his site and click on help page and then cap kits and look for g05-802 with transistors. You might want to order the transistors that are mounted to those 4 tall heat sinks just in case. Should be 2 ea. mpsu57 and 2 ea. mpsu07, they wont all be bad but have them on hand in case. Also ask him for the filter caps, the 2 big caps in the middle, they dont come in the kit. Make sure to order some heat sink compound too if you dont have any and 4 of the t-03 insulators for the chassis mounted transistors, might as well replace them too, one of them could be bad and causing the problem.

check the large resistors on board and make sure one of them did not open up finally, and check the tranny's.

All the diodes, transistors, and large resistors seem fine. I'm still buying the cap kit with transistors tomorrow just in case. I was already making a purchase with bob roberts tomorrow for some Sanyo monitor parts so 11 more dollars for the peace of mind of knowing I'll have new caps and transistors is worth it to me.

I also placed an order with digikey for the new bridge rectifier. Radioshack for fuses.

Replace your Bad DB100 (Bridge), pull the two big white resistors and replace them with 18awg wire (it is a field mod), reflow all of the headers.

Make damn sure that you note the 2 different transistors used as they are location specific.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but did you ever get this resolved? My AD is doing exactly the same thing, your picture looks identical to mine. I've done a cap kit, replaced the bridge rectifier, the 2 big filter caps, the chassis mount transistors and the 4 transistors with the tall heat sinks on the board. Also removed (with wick and solder sucker) all solder from all the header pins and re-flowed with fresh solder. Still only half a screen, though. This must be a later board, as R100 & R101 are not present.

Well, I finally fixed mine! I pulled the deflection board and double checked everything that I had done. Everything looked good, so I fired it up again and got the half screen again. I decided to adjust the pots that control the size of the display just for the hell of it. I hadn't touched these up to this point, as they had dabs of silicone/hot glue on them from the factory. After a slight adjustment, the picture jumped and filled the whole screen! Works great now... These pots must have been dirty, causing the fold over issue.

I had and just fixed this exact issue. I got into a rabbit hole sort of, trying to go through all of the x and y amp circuit, socketing my DACs and swapping to see if the problem became horiztonal instead of vertical.

in the end, I swapped out a known good defection board for the G05-802 and bobs your uncle it fixed the issue. Something on the deflection board was the problem and I am going to take a detailed look at the board and see if I can find the source.

did you get yours fixed? I mean my issue look 100% like this one.
