Asteroids Deluxe High Scores

Also, from what I've noticed, the saucers almost always shoot at the killer satellite as soon as it's within range to break it apart.

just recently got an AD, had to crack 30,000 to get in the top 3 saved scores. Yesterday i got first on it at 38,880 and im just getting fired up.

Yes love the game, just got my new blue monitor overlay installed.:) I cant remember what the high scores were on mine when I got it, I reset them. I think they were in the low 30,000 range.

4th place is 208,000 thats a challange enough!!! 3,333 million no way!!

I score around 30,000 it's a tough game but awesome, everyone that comes into my game room is blown away by the mirror/blacklight effect.

Where did you get the new blue monitor overlay?

i got 240,000 my trick is to hunt the satellites early in the game to get bonus ships early and build up my score. i'm also great at hitting my shield when getting shot. the asteroids screens for the most part i find easy to manuever.
I think the killer satellite continues to respawn if you have more than 1 asteroid left.

I got my first vector, AD. plays blind, currently working on getting the monitor up and running and will definitely post back with results. last time I played I think I was at 24k

I am super curious as to what high scores are on mine.

I've barely had time to play mine since I got it working and I don't remember what my scores were. Not high enough to get them to save though. How do I clear out the old high scores? Anyway, now you guys have given me some goals to shoot for. Bastards.

When I picked mine up, it was set to five ships and the high score was around 25k. I set it back to three ships and worked like hell to beat that score; I'm currently stuck at 29,500. I get the satellite on the first screen, so I guess I have the later ROM.

I love the cabaret, I think the backlight/artwork is too distracting on the upright. It's definitely an underrated game. I didn't like it that much until I bought one and really played it. I was going to convert it to a plain Asteroids, but I wouldn't dream of it now.

I agree with djw90, clear out whatever asteroids/ships are around before the satellite breaks up and those suckers come after you. I try to pick the saucers off as quick as I can, because if they shoot the saucers it's pretty rough to deal with three things coming straight at you while another shoots.

When the satellite breaks up, the smaller ships curve out; if you fire a burst, you can zip right in between them, rotate and shoot back while they are turning around to hunt you. I don't know if this is actually a better technique, but it sure is fun.

I just got a cabaret Asteroids Deluxe.. It seems to be easier to play, some have said its the angle of the monitor?? Putting up around 90k on it:D

52,980 here. My highest score is on GorfChampion's machine but I forgot what that one is. That one is in the 50's K too.

Jim I think yours is 51,750 here at The Lost Highway Arcade. I still can't beat my own score of 42K. I'll never beat your score you bastard

Funny you posted John, I just found my other high score which is 54,110-- on the hard romset:

Thread is a little dated, but I recently purchased my first game - a cocktail Asteroids Deluxe. I accidentally deleted the high scores that were on the machine when I was screwing around with the test mode, but I'm pretty sure the scores in the top 3 were in the 350,000 range. With something like 35 or so extra ships.

Not sure whether it is a Rev A or B machine, but our top scores (me & my 11 year old son) are in the 19,000 range. Jack is getting really good at it and we've been leapfrogging high scores every few days by a few hundred points.

Asteroids Deluxe...

My top 3 high scores are 74,580, 64,890 and 59,400. I consider all 3 lucky! I have had the game for 9 years and broke 50k maybe 10x? I can easily get to 30k without losing a ship and then kablooey!

I find the key is to carefully blow up just enough asteroids to bring out the satellites. You can rack up some early points going after several of those on the first 2-3 waves. After that all hell breaks loose.

And yes - AD doesn't get much love from the world though IMHO it's superior to Asteroids. Much prettier cabinet too.

Oh and I got my monitor film from Wizzes too!

Broke my score, now up to 32,150, which is still pretty bad, but I'm scoring 20k+ more consistently.

If you completely destroy a rock before the first saucer comes out, the satellites appear much earlier. On the first 2-3 stages, you can rack up points hunting them down this way.

thats my secret....dont tell nobody!! shhhhhh. doing this you can rack up 100gs easy!

Got my AD working and reviving this thread.

Been playing it for a couple of days and and managed a few 34k games.

Man is this game tough. I need to work on building up more free ships in the earlier rounds by leaving some rocks and shooting more Death Stars. I also try to leave a couple big rocks untouched and focus on getting rid of the smaller rocks in every round. I get into trouble when there are too many smaller rocks on the screen.

Per Arcade History:

The accuracy of the large UFO's shots have been improved. Now every one out of four shots are aimed at the player's spaceship. If there are no other targets, all shots go toward the player's spaceship.

Firing is automatic - holding down the fire button will release a maximum of four shots (on screen) at a time.

Managed 45k tonight. Played 4 games, the other three were around 35k. The game seemed insanely hard at the levels I was playing starting around 40k. I can't imagine advancing much farther in the game than that - the game is way too fast. This is a Rev 2 board.

I've been stuck at 58,660 for about a year. All three of my high scores are >50k, but I haven't gotten any in that range in a long time. I switched mine over to hard, two ships (defaults on release) for a while, but never managed more than 30k on those settings. I thought it'd make me better at playing easy/3 ships, but, well, it didn't.

Reading back over this thread, there's some crazy theories. What I've noticed is that the satellite comes out whenever you have 2-3 asteroids on the screen. So on the easy ROM, demolishing one brings it out right away. It will come out on the first wave on the hard setting as well. I like to leave three large asteroids, if I can, then hunt satellites. If a UFO breaks up one of the big rocks, you get a short reprieve — the satellites quit coming out until you get back down to 2-4 rocks. Kill a couple of the small ones and hunt satellites more. They keep coming out as long as there's more than one rock on the screen, and the big rocks give you the most time to get them to respawn. You can nail a good 6 or 7 before the end of the first wave. Generally I try to shoot for 10k per wave, but I've managed 15-16k on the first wave on occasion.

Also have noticed that the damage the shield takes is not constant. Using it while nothing hits it is relatively cheap, absorbing a shot is much worse. The amount that hitting a rock takes off seems to be proportional to the force of impact, so ramming a big fast moving asteroid takes more than a small one bumping off you.

Bumping this thread because this game is hard!

I struggle to get 20000 in a game but then, I'm pretty sure I have the hard version on the ROMs because there's more than 4 rocks on level 1.

What settings does everyone use? 3 ships or 5? Easy or hard ROMs?
