Asteroids Deluxe High Scores

My best is ~28k. The top 3 when I bought it were 89k, ???, and 69k. That's just sick.

Is there an easy way to tell which ROM revision you have? Mine is hard as hell - I'd hate to learn that it's really the "easy" version.

Revision 1 ROMset, quickly identified by 6 Asteroids appearing on the first screen and the appearance of the Killer Satellite on the first stage.
Some Revision 2 ROMsets allow for a switchable difficulty back to the Revision 1 set when set to the listed dip switch settings. Some Revision 2 ROMsets (an easier revision quickly identified by 4 Asteroids appearing on the first stage and no Killer Satellite until stage 2) do not allow a switch to hard, and cannot be accepted for submissions.

Based on that, I have Rev 1 in mine. My high is ~30K but that is because I start with 5 or 6 ships. Very hard game, but very fun. I need to get better at it.

Also, for the wow factor, this one gets more attention than any other games in my collection.

KLOV says the complete opposite :

" Determining which version you are playing can be discerned by noting when the first appearance of a Killer Satellite occurs - in the original version this is near the end of the second wave, in the revised version it will appear near the end of the first wave (and moves much more slowly). "

My game is set to start with 3 ships. Game is too effin hard! It doesn't match the Twin Galaxies descriptions at all. I had wondered about that before. I have the dips set to "official" settings, but otherwise it's not the same.

The first Killer Satellite appears with 4 asteroids left on the second wave. That matches closer to the KLOV "original/hard" description. Makes me feel much better about my abilities. But still....

Yeah, the electric blue vectors really make the difference. Good luck getting to 50k. I know you can do it!!

yeah, keep practicing. I left off at just under 30k....I'm working on my Satan's Hollow score. I just scored over a million for the first time tonight. And then I did it again. Giddy as a school girl.

But one day, I'll come back to Asteroids Deluxe and *own* those Killer Satellites. And that darned tiny UFO too!!! I want to get 100k+ on AD so I can get GOD, ACE, and whoever has the #2 slot out of my high score list!!

That little bastard always targets the killer satellite sitting right beside me. I *HATE* the little UFO!!!!

Nice score BTW. That's really close to my best.....+/- 500 points.

I recently scored my best score on AD. I wish I could remember what it was. I'll post it tonight. At least it is saved in the HS table, unlike most of my other attempts.

Every once in a while, I'll get 2 killer satellites on the second wave. Anybody know how to trigger it? I don't think its a time thing 'cause it usually appears soon after the first one is finished off. It's pretty rare that I've seen it happen...

I think the killer satellite continues to respawn if you have more than 1 asteroid left.

Yep. I've gotten at least 4 of these on the second screen appear as long as there is more than one asteroid. The alien ships get wise and start shooting at the remaining asteroids to put a halt to your shenanigans. The programmers learned their lesson from Asteroids.

Once the first killer satellite appears, I try to shoot the reamining asteroids before I disturb the satellite. I would rather take my chances in the rocks than have the little ship and satellite's to deal with.
