Hey everyone. I hope somebody can help me out here. I have an original dedicated Asteroids Deluxe that is in near mint condition. A few weeks after purchasing it, I noticed one day that there was no video on the screen. The power is on, and the kicker is, I've jiggled wires, reseated chips and connectors, checked my grounds, fuses, voltage, etc. I can usually power it up and within 15 seconds I have video and it may run for days if I'd let it. I'll turn it off to run to the store or to go to bed, etc, and go to turn it back on and poof, nothing. Then sometimes I can just leave it on for an extended period of time and I'll walk by it and there is video. I'm baffled at this point and don't know much about vector monitors. I'm already spending a fortune having my Star Wars machine repaired and would like to tackle this one myself. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Arizona is a very dry state and they park airplanes there for long term storage so they will not rust.

I would measure the voltage at the chips to see what is there on the +5 volt line. Also try to clean the connector; The usual method is to use a pink pencil eraser on the edge connector. Not the kind on a pencil but the pink pet type that has no metal just the eraser. While you are there look inside the connector to make certain that none of the pins are loose or different from the others.

Reflow all the header pins in the monitor. And post more info about your symptoms. Is there neck glow? HV? Spotkiller on/off?
