Well a while ago this monitor was blowing fuses (f700) and burning resistors. Game plays blind and also tested xy out with a o-scope. Works. tested all voltages--ok.
Spot killer on, neck glow , all good. Tested and replaced a bunch of components (Q608,609,Q708,709, all damaged/bad resistors, diods, transistors, and DB100.
So now it's not starting on fire anymore (progress!). But with the contrast & bright up all the way I get this (sorry, I don't know how to embed youtube here)

Any ideas? Thanks.

I just noticed the spot killer is on. That means It's not getting xy signal, right?
I don't have my o-scope here, it's at work. I'm gonna get it tomorrow.

Reflow all of the monitor headers, they are notorious for cold solder joints causing your problem.

Yeah, I did that a while ago but I will do it again. I just got my o-scope from work so I'll be working on it tonight.

Well I hooked up my scope and the game shows up fine on it. I reflowed all the headers & re-tested the chissis mounted transistors. Same issue.
One strange thing is that Q709 gets pretty hot, while the others do not.

So all solder joints/connectors are reflowed and tested good. Same screen.

While the game plays the lines do not change. they just go back and forth.

I'm now stuck.
What would cause Q709 to get super hot? A bad yolk? I tested that and I get a couple ohms in both coils.

Have you changed the HV diode ? That turned out to be the problem with mine.

Anyone? Could it be I have a bad HV diode?

I am going to say that your HV diode is good because you have some sort of image on the screen. Does the image change size when you play with the X and Y pots on the game PCB? Weird how the image that you have looks to be shifted off center (left and right).

Well I officially give up on this thing.
I ran the oscope through the board, testing past each component on the board & I pretty much got an image past a few resistors, pots, transistors, etc... I replaced all transistors, tested all diodes again. No good.

If anyone has a deflection board for a G05 Asteroids Deluxe for sale or trade (guitar stuff) let me know. Or even a whole monitor, I don't care, I'll take it .

Looks like your missing the entire deflection on one of your channels. Check for a cold solder joints on the big 4ohm resistors on the top of that board. Plus the fuse holders in the same area. I'm sure you already checked the resistors value.
