I recently bought an Asteroids Deluxe machine with a G05-802 monitor. I've rebuilt the PS, AR board, and recapped the monitor. I noticed while working on it that several of the transistors on the G05 pcb are installed backward from what the silk screen on the board shows. The only real issue with the game is that for the first 30min or so, the asteroids and ship get larger when they are in the middle of the screen vs. when they are closer to the top or bottom.

So the question is, should I worry about it since it's working, or should I reinstall the transistors to match the orientation shown on the pcb? It was like this when I bought it and seems to work. Part of me wants to fix it, and part of me wants to leave well enough alone.

Thanks for any advice!

No... I'd say the board was printed wrong (if you search, it's probably been discussed before)... I'm looking at a G05-802 board which has the transistors oriented the same way, though it looks like they noticed their mistake and removed the transistor outline altogether on my board.

The letters are still on mine, and are the same as yours, and if you're really curious, you could look at the datasheet of the transistors and make sure C,B, and E are in the right spot, but I'd guess that they are... though if any have been replaced, you should verify that they weren't put in according to the outline.

BTW, regarding your issue... have you tried adjusting the linearity pots?

Good call on the pots. I removed the glue and adjusted them and it took the distortion right out. One of the pots was pretty flaky so I'll order a new one from Bob.

Thanks!
