Some sounds are fairly clear, but the ones that likely produce a rumble or register lower in pitch have a low-fi distortion. It doesn't make the cabinet rumble like the cocktail version of it I've played or the original Asteroids. Here is a video of the gameplay.

Any ideas what is causing this?
@andrewb any ideas?

Post a picture of the AR board that is in this cab.

If someone put an Asteroids AR-I-01 in there (instead of the correct AR-I-03 for AD), that would do it.

If it isn't that, I'd replace the LM324 on the game board, in the upper right corner. That's the audio preamp, and they frequently go bad.

You could also have a bad TDA2002 amp on the AR as well. If you have an AR-II from any other Atari game, you can swap it with the one in this cab as a test. (You can swap an AR-II-01/02/03/04 for an AR-I-03, as the left/5V side of an AR-II is the same as an AR-I-03. You just won't plug anything into the right side of the AR-II.)
